The Bob Burdette Center celebrated Christmas on Friday, December 12th, with a visit from Santa followed by a festive dinner program.  Santa met with each child to hear what he or she wanted for Christmas as well as to deliver early Christmas presents! Each child who attends the BBC received a new backpack filled with school supplies, winter accessories, snacks and toys collected and donated by First Baptist Church of Burlington, NC.  Toys donated by the Believe in WV Storehouse were also added to each of the backpacks.

Pastor Terry Peele of First Baptist Church and a team of seven members of his congregation delivered 252 backpacks to the BBC at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The BBC distributed 100 of these backpacks and made available 52 backpacks to PRO-Kids and 100 backpacks to The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club.  Both of these organizations operate afterschool programs in Charleston and distributed the backpacks to their participants as part of their Christmas celebrations. Staff and children of the organizations who benefited from this donation were blown away by the generosity of Pastor Peele and the efforts of his church.  The children are truly grateful for their generosity.

The BBC continued its Christmas celebration with a dinner served by BBC staff and Board members followed by a program.  Mrs. Tinney, a volunteer with Child Evangelism Fellowship, shared the story of the candy cane.  Many of the children had heard the story before and were able to help explain the meaning behind the different stripes to other children and parents in attendance.  Honesty, a middle school student, performed a solo of the Christmas favorite, "Merry Christmas, Darling" and Mr. Richard, a BBC staff member, directed a choir of children in performing "Mary Did You Know?" "Joy to the World," and "Silent Night."  The children did an excellent job and ended the celebration on a good note.
